Teaching with Pride: Maegan Cooper

What was your role last year at CIS and how has it changed? How many years have you worked at CIS?

My previous role at CIS was as a middle and upper school Latin teacher, the Classics Department Chair, and a 6th grade Pride leader. This year, my 6th year at CIS, I have kept those roles but added Assistant Middle and Upper School Director.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of CIS?

I am an avid reader. I've read about 20 books this year thus far, and I've always got at least two books going. I also love to cook, French food at the moment. Most important is my family: my husband, Clint and my little girl, Eliza. We like spending time walking the trails of the Bear Creek area on nice days.

What is your favorite memory from CIS?

My favorite CIS memory is watching my students acting out a play, in Latin, at the theater of Epidaurus on our trip to Greece last spring break.

How would you describe CIS to a stranger?

I would describe CIS as a close community. People always say it, "takes a village" to raise your child. I feel like CIS epitomizes that statement. Everyone works together and supports one another: parents, staff, teachers, administrators. We're all in!

What are your top three favorite foods?

Favorite foods: dark chocolate, avocados, and coffee (I know, not a food, but I love a nice cup of coffee).

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to so many things this year. I love seeing the new group of 6th grade students; I love teaching great authors to my upper school students; I look forward to growing and learning in my new role and supporting our amazing teachers along the way.
