Clubs and Organizations

Student Council

The Student Council is elected by the students of CIS, and represents the entire student body. The Student Council consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and Secretary. In addition, two representatives from each grade level serve on the Student Council. The Student Council is responsible for organizing a wide variety of student activities, ranging from dances and socials, to all-school community service projects.

Latin Club

Latin Club's purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Rome and to give students some understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity. The goal is to promote enthusiasm, develop responsibility, and enrich the students' total growth through a variety of fun and exciting activities such as bowling, museum trips, singing in Latin, and Roman games.

Math Club

The CIS Mathematics Club gives students an opportunity to utilize their mathematics skills in competitions both as individuals and in a team format. Students in grades 6-8 compete in the Mathcounts competition and also take the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8 test. Students in grades 9-12 take a series of competitive tests given by the Missouri Mathematics League (MOML) as well as the AMC 10/12. In addition, they compete in competitions sponsored by the Greater Plains Mathematics League (GPML).

National Honor Society (high school)

The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929. (http://www.njhs.us/s_nhs/sec.asp?TRACKID=&CID=126&DID=5270)

Science Club

The members of the Science Club at CIS participate in a variety of fun and challenging activities. One of our major activities each year is preparing for, and competing in, the annual Science Olympiad competition. This competition, which includes a wide variety of events, truly has something for everyone. In addition, the Science Club will explore topics of interest to the members, such as model rocketry, astronomy, and environmental issues.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Since 1954, FCA has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest interdenominational, school-based, Christian sports organization in America. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ. (http://www.fca.org/aboutfca/)
