Academic Competitions
Geography Bee
Open to all students. The competition is a series of geography based questions. The competition is similar to a spelling bee where students compete in rounds until only one student stands. Students participate in an in-school competition and the winner advances to the local all-school competition.
History Day Competition
Open to all students. A student selects a project, paper, or presentation to research and present depending on the year's topic. Mr. Bricker guides and assists students as needed throughout the winter to prepare for the local History Day competition usually held in February.
Knowledge Master Competition
Open to all students. The 6-8 and 9-12 teams participate in a national competition testing the students' knowledge of history, language, literature, science, and math.
Math Competitions
Varies depending on competition. Missouri Math League Competitions are thirty-minute challenge tests taken 5 to 6 times during the year. This competition is usually only open to grades 9-12. In addition, CIS students have the opportunity to travel to other schools throughout the year to participate in individual and team math competitions.
Science Olympiad
The 6th-8th and 9th-12th teams participate in a regional competition in Rolla in February. There are 12 spots on each team. Depending on the year's topic, students will participate in different events ranging from test-taking to building events.
Spelling Bee
Open to all students in 6th-8th grades. Students test their spelling skills in a friendly in-school competition usually held in January. The winner advances to the local competition in March.
