See CIS from a student’s perspective by reading about the experiences students have at a small, private, independent school. Across the board, students agree CIS has enriched their lives:
The education I received at CIS was truly phenomenal. The challenging curriculum and the individual attention didn’t just allow me to get in to a fantastic college, it also furnished me with the analytical skills and knowledge to succeed once I got there.
Scott, CIS Class of 2002
Dartmouth University Alumnus
I came to CIS from public school looking for a good academic and social environment, and I found it. At CIS, I am always surrounded by students who care about learning and teachers who genuinely love teaching. The close-knit community makes it easy to reach out to teachers and other students for help whenever I need it. CIS has also allowed me to have a voice in activities like Student Council, National Honor Society, and Academic Bowl–a chance I might not have had at a bigger public school with fewer individual opportunities. I truly enjoy my time at CIS and look forward to confidently using the skills CIS has helped instill in me in the future.
Madison, Eleventh Grade Class of 2010
Columbia Independent School offers a strong curriculum that will prepare students to go to college and pursue the career they want. The workload is large enough that students must manage their time, but not so large that people are consistently stressed out. Opportunities in after-school activities allow students to get to know their classmates and teachers. The teachers are experts on their subjects and also often make the classroom fun.
John, Eighth Grade Class of 2013
I like being here because it is not like any other school. It’s cool how you’re safe. When your mom drops you off, you know you’re going to be okay. There are a lot of teachers, and they are nice. I also have a lot of friends. I like the little buddies program where we spend time with the Kindergartners. Breakfast for Your Brain is fun, too, because you get to spend time with kids in other grades.
