Activities
Retreat
Before school begins each August, students are expected to attend the all-school retreat. The retreat gives students an opportunity to reconnect before school begins and includes activities such as student orientation, team competitions and Pride Time (student advisory groups).
CIS Spirit Week
In the fall and spring the members of Student Council organize a CIS Spirit Week. Each day of the week gives students an opportunity to dress up and show their CIS spirit.
Read-A-Thon
The day before Thanksgiving Break marks the CIS Read-A-Thon. Students raise money for the school by collecting donations from friends and family for participating in Read-A-Thon events. The school day is devoted to reading and reading-related activities, including local celebrity guest readers.
Blue to Gold Silent Auction
The Blue to Gold Silent Auction is a Student Council sponsored event that raises money for school-wide activities by selling unwanted, or "blue", items students own to other students who view them as "gold".
Toga Day and Latin Skits
Toga Day is a tradition at CIS. Each spring all of the Latin students come to school dressed in their formal toga attire. They have a special lunch together and then present skits (in English) based on the history and mythology they have learned about Greco-Roman culture.
Walk in the Grass Talent Show
Each spring Student Council hosts the Walk in the Grass Talent Show, giving all Upper School students and faculty the opportunity to show off their talents both serious and comical. This event is held in the evening and a try-out is necessary to enter the talent show.
Senior Celebration
Senior Celebration is a senior-chosen activity to celebrate their time at CIS. The seniors plan the event and invite the juniors and guests.
