About CIS

Columbia Independent School offers an independent education to boys and girls in grades K through 12. What are the distinctive characteristics of an independent school? Apart from being funded through tuition and charitable donations, these include a unique mission statement, self-governance and evaluation and accreditation by an independent organization. You can learn about the CIS mission, Board of Trustees and accrediting agency from the links on the left.

But you're probably more interested in why students and families choose an independent education at CIS. For most, it's the value added and the values added. Through small classes, dedicated faculty and a challenging curriculum our students acquire the basic knowledge and intellectual skills to be well prepared for higher education. But that is not our only goal. We encourage students to realize a passion for learning that will continue for a lifetime, enabling them to successfully adapt to an ever-changing workplace and enrich their lives. We encourage students to see beyond themselves and reflect on the ways in which they are part of a broader community--locally, nationally and internationally. And we encourage students to appreciate those aspects of life which bring joy to living.

Value and values - you'll find both as you explore the many dimensions of CIS.
